This training is for:

  • To experienced or beginner gardeners, wishing to eliminate polluting practices in their garden and to become autonomous in its management;

  • To people looking for practical and concrete advice on how to manage a permaculture system (garden - orchard - chicken coop - apiary...).​​

How much does the training cost?

For the purpose of inclusion, we offer a free price in consciousness.

This means that we wish to give priority to access to this training for everyone. The primary goal is to share knowledge, we do not wish to enter into economic competition with learners. We exchange knowledge for financial aid whose you decide the amount.

At the end of the training, you will estimate how much it is worth and how high you can participate to help us. Payment can be made via bank transfer. Recommended price for the good performance of our activities: 45 € per person.

Where will the training be given ?

The potential places to welcome you are as follows:

  • Farm of the Croix-Rousse, 51 rue Philippe de Lassalle, 4th arrondissement of Lyon. Go through the gate and go to the end of the footpath. The Croix-Rousse farm is a associative educational activity farm, recognized as being of general interest, under the status of an association under the 1901 law, created on the initiative of the Croix-Rousse Ouest district council;​​

  • O Golden Gardens, Place Léonard Peyrat in Saint-Didier au Mont D'Or, beautiful garden of 3 hectares made available by the College of Fromente. You will discover nearly 1,200 square meters of cultivated plots by its members and adherents. Something to delight your retinas and awaken all your senses.

The proposed places can evolve according to the opportunities and the seasons.

What is the content of this training ?

This training A year in a permaculture garden in one day logically follows Introduction to permaculture. The objective is to enable students to concretely embark on their autonomy project by teaching them the basics of agroecology.

Agroecology is a set of agricultural techniques and practices combining the understanding of the interactions between living organisms (ecology) and food production (agriculture). This science is very relevant in the context of permaculture.

This training wants to provide the keys to understanding to manage all the important aspects of the garden, during the first year and the following ones.

 

More specifically, this training will cover:

  • The place of the agroecology in permaculture (30 minutes)

  • Principles of agroecology : functioning of soil and plants, plant reproduction cycles, annual patterns in the garden, possible associations between elements (vegetables, orchard, hives, chicken coop, ponds, etc.) (2h);

  • Calendar of actions month by month (4h) with :

    • Lists of vegetables and fruit to plant according to the season,

    • Reproduction of your plants (when and how),

    • Pruning fruit trees (when and how),

    • Management of a compost,

    • All other actions to be taken during the season to maintain fertility in your permaculture garden / orchard;

  • Management of predators and diseases (30 minutes)

Depending on the opportunities and the season, this training will be accompanied by practical workshops related to the subjects of the program.

Practical informations

The training is not leading to a diploma and is provided by a certified trainer.

This is intended for adults as there is no possibility of childcare on site. Pets are prohibited on site. There is also no possibility of accommodation on site.

No prior skills are required.

 

Food for lunch breaks is not included, only coffee and tea can be provided to trainees. However, you can have lunch on site by bringing your own food (fridge and microwave) and having a picnic on the site.
